Weekly Routines

With school in full swing, I am now fully settled in here in Newcastle. I have a routine, a key to the house in Merewether, and good feel for the city.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays I spend the entire day at uni. The roughly 40 minute commute involves an easy 10 minute bike ride to the train station, a 10 minute train ride to the edge of campus, and another short bike ride to class. Arriving by around 9am, I have either 3 or 4 classes in a day. Lectures are 2 hours long, but the start and end times are nowhere near as strict as at Clemson. One professor at Clemson told us that if we were late then we shouldn't attend because he didn't want us to distract him or the rest of the class ... in the auditorium (because it's SO disruptive if you quietly slip into the top row). When registering for classes, I noticed that all the classes run back to back. I had one lecture end at 6:00pm and the following lecture start at 6:00 as well (ending at 8pm...I told you I was at uni all day!). I was heaps keen to try out these Aussie time machines and/or teleporters that they have kept secret from the rest of the world! How else did they expect to run such a schedule on time? Well, they don't. My classes have typically started 10 minutes late and ended sometimes 30 minutes early, and it's not unusual for the professor to show up 5 or 10 minutes late as well. None of my professors take attendance, and there's no graded homework! It's a dream come true. There are tutorials along with the lectures where you might have some work to accomplish beforehand. So basically on any given Tuesday or Thursday, I attend class, do school work, and eat lunch with friends.

Then by process of elimination you'll notice that I have 4-day weekends along with a mid-week break. Normally, I go for a more evenly spread schedule, but when I live at the beach, this is far superior. On my days off, I usually wake up whenever I please, make some breakfast, and go check the waves. The day then usually consists of a mix of surfing, relaxing, and getting some chores done (laundry, gorceries, some school work), then either more surfing or frisbee training. Not bad, right? I'm enjoying it! It's a very easy-going lifestyle with little worries and lots of free time. Unfortunately, though, all my housemates work, and at this point, I only occasionally have a surfing companion, so the majority of a day is spent alone. I'm making more friends, though. It definitely makes me grateful for all my friends back home and at Clemson (miss y'all!). Anyways, I plan on utilizing my 4 day weekends with trips to Sydney or camping trips.

Now that I have bragged about all my free time, I have no rational excuse for my lack of blog posts. As a remedy, I am going to list blog posts that I owe y'all in an effort to motivate myself and to be held accountable:
-Surfest 2012 & Ultimate Frisbee Regionals
-Tour of the house
-To get stitches or not to get stitches, that is the question
-21st birthday! (occurring tomorrow)

For now, I have to get back to writing my 1000 word case study on the changes in the international wine industry for my international business strategies class. But before I get back to work, I'll leave y'all with a few pictures since this would be a lame post without any!
These guys were just chilling at the picnic table watching the waves and grilling. That's what I want to do for Easter Holidays: take a road trip up the coast to surf and camp! minus the speedos...
They had these rigged up vans with beds and supplies in them like an RV. When I saw this bumper sticker, though, I had to snap a picture. "Dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians"
My laughable attempt at Mustache March...
